Unfortunately, calories count even while you are on vacation. It can be tempting to give in and fall off the healthy food wagon, but you just have to get creative. These tips will help you to maintain your healthy eating habits, wherever you may roam.

  1. Pack a snack: If you are going on a journey, then pack your own healthy snacks so that you do not become too hungry and make poor choices once you arrive.
  2. Go for lean protein: Chicken, fish and seafood are healthy proteins that will keep you full and satisfied longer.
  3. Skip the sides: Creamy side dishes, like potato salad and coleslaw, are filled with fat and calories. Choose pickled dishes or vinaigrettes for veggies instead.
  4. Choose carbs wisely: Skip the baked potato in favor of yam, and go for the dark wheat bread instead of the white rolls to fill up on whole grains rather than simple carbs.
  5. Enjoy a salad: Having a salad can help fill you up before a meal and also will help you avoid the temptation of cheesy appetizers.
